Artificial Christmas Trees

For many decades the festive season has been filled with artificial trees as well and the real trees. As our living styles change and trends develop, so the artificial tree has changed from its original basic form into more sophisticated designs. Until recently it was almost impossible to get artificial trees in the original style as these used sticks with feathers (usually duck or goose) stuck to them, to make the tree look more natural the feathers were died green like the evergreen pine needles of a traditional tree. Recently there has been a shift in popularity back to these feather trees, however, they have become more luxurious and are now more colourful with the feathers being died fashionable colours rather than the natural look.

Many of the early manufacturers of artificial trees were the same companies who produced brushes. The executives of these companies realized that they could use their knowledge and production capabilities to mass produce artificial trees, by using the bristles of their brushes as pines for the branches. Today the modern bristle equivalent will be made from plastic and come in an assortment of colours and sizes to fit in with any persons taste. With every season there are new varieties of artificial trees, this wide range means that there is probably a style out there to suit everyone, some of the more abstract artificial trees certainly bring a smile as the trees literally sing and dance.

Metallic Trees

During the late 1950’s there was a change from the original wooden structure of the artificial trees to the more modern metallic ones. This was also the time when artificial trees ceased to always be green. The fault with this era of artificial trees was the lack of health and safety regulations and the trees were often either made or painted with very flammable materials. This was an unacceptable hazard as the heat from the electric lights could easily cause your artificial tree to catch fire. Today, with the advance in chemical developments we have replaced these metallic artificial trees with tinsel trees. The tinsel trees are made from suitable fire retardant materials making it a safe addition to your festive decorations.

As we seem to have less and less time as every year passes, the manufacturers of artificial trees have solved the problem of finding time to decorate your tree by making their trees with with lights attached. This also avoids the issue to finding that one blown bulb which is preventing your whole set of lights from working! The recent trend is to have fibre optic artificial trees, this means that the trees will not only light up, but will also change colours at set time intervals. The simplicity of these artificial trees made this a very popular style.

One of the new trends is artificial upside down trees. These are marketed as save for families as they can be hung from the ceiling at a height that little fingers cannot reach. These are also popular as they take up less floor space, leaving more room for santa to leave his presents, and also is an interesting feature as it is still fairly uncommon.

The artificial trees have many advantages over the traditional trees with the great range of colours and shapes available. The high standards of these mass produced trees mean that they can be used year in and year out, without every having to vacuum clean up a needle (or without the nuisance of finding needles after is passed).
